Winter Whites at the Gramercy Park Hotel

Genevieve and James were our last client to get married in 2016 and we couldn't be more happy with the way their winter wedding invitations turned out! From all the letterpress details to the elegant calligraphy by Papersoul it was such a pleasure working with the wonderful  JZ Events to design all their paper goods. On the day, Putnam & Putnam decked out the greenery filled Gramercy Park Hotel with their stunning blooms and luckily Susan Baker Photography was there to capture all of the winter magic!

Genevieve and James got married at the iconic Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City last winter just before the holidays. Naturally, they wanted something elegant and formal to match the kind of wedding they would have, while incorporating some personal touches to make it their own. Something very important to them was their families, so we created an emblem to represent the joining of the two. The bride's last name, Haverstick, means "fields of oats or hay" and the groom's family is from Scotland, where the national flower is the thistle. They loved their new crest so much we used it on everything from the main invitation to the program and menu!

For their main invitation, Genevieve and James chose an over-sized double thick card with letterpress printing in dark charcoal. Naturally, they fell in love with calligraphy and had to have it incorporated. They chose to do traditional inner and outer envelopes calligraphed in charcoal ink for a more cohesive look. We also added a blind embossed border, which really added dimension and elevated the whole look. To us, a blind embossed border is as classic as you can get! We love subtle details like this, as well as other bordering options like edge painting or beveled edges!

The other unique element to complete the suite was their map of New York City. Almost all of our clients come to us wanting some sort of map and often times it also serves as an event card! Usually they tell some sort of story whether it's the couple's life in New York or the wedding day events. Genevieve and James' map included all the important wedding locations like The Gramercy Park Hotel and featured their favorite spots in the city, as well as other places important to their story. It added an element of whimsey and we loved drawing all the little icons!

The client decided to use traditional inner and outer envelopes - both calligraphed!
